Prospector Elm
This fast-growing, dense, vase shaped elm has superior pest resistance and Dutch
elm disease resistance. Prospector was selected from a USDA trial as a replacement
for the American Elm which was devastated by Dutch elm disease. It is a little smaller
than the American elm reaching 50 ft. tall and 25 ft. crown spread at maturity.
Prospector has green leaves with new leaves emerging orange-red in color and maturing
to green giving contrast during the growing season. Fall color is yellow. It tolerates
adverse sites, soils and will grow best in well-drained soil. Prospector has vigorous
early growth of 3-4 ft. per year and can be used as street tree, lawn or under power
lines due to its shape and size.
New leaves in red-orange color.
